Seoul, Korea  September 9, 2008 - Korea¡¯s leading fabless semiconductor manufacturer Core Logic (CEO Ki Soo Hwang;
www.corelogic.co.kr) announced the winners of the ¡°Idea Contest for Additional Functions of Mobile Phones¡± This idea contest for mobile phone additional service functions took place over the last three months in celebration of Core Logic¡¯s 10th anniversary, and on Monday(8th) four winning teams were invited to Core Logic¡¯s Head Office for an award ceremony.

This contest not only inspired new and striking additional functions for mobile phones and enhanced user convenience by improving usability of existing handsets, but it provided a stage to review new technologies based on novel information and ideas.

The grand prize went to the SSM Team at the Korea Aerospace University (Geun Beom Park, Woo Seong Lee, Myeong Hun Seong) which received a cash reward of three million won. The SSM Team adapted technology used in state-of-the-art UAVs to the mobile phone UI, which received great appraisal from the panel of judges from the get go.

The runner up was the KOREAPAS-er Team from Korea University (In Sik Baek, Ju Ran Park, Seung Han Seo) which submitted an idea based on strengthening haptic functions, and the third place winners were the EXP Team at SangMyung University (In Seong Lee, Seong Min Jeon, Hyeon Chang Lee, Seung Wook Park, and Min Hyeok Lim) which proposed a new image calibration technology and Hyo Jin Choi from Cheongam College who submitted a mobile phone idea applying RFID technology.

A total of 80 teams consisting of the general public, students, and engineers submitted over 100 ideas in this contest, and the four winning teams were selected by Core Logic¡¯s Product Planning Team through document examination and presentations.

¡°The criteria used for judging was the originality of the idea, technical feasibility, and the marketability and economy of the technology. There were many new concept I/O device ideas including touch screens in this contest. General users also had a great interest in short range wireless communication such as WLAN, BT, and ZigBee,¡± said Executive Director Woo Gon Goh from Product Planning at Core Logic as he explained the judging process.

Core Logic CEO Ki Soo Hwang remarked, ¡°This contest was held in the spirit of collecting the original ideas of general users for mobile phone additional services that people can relate to and it was meaningful because we could identify improvements and new ideas for mobile phones not from an industrial view, but an everyday user standpoint.¡±

¡°Now, as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, Core Logic has been reborn into a mobile solutions provider that provides better mobile phone services based on the needs of consumers. This event was an important effort to share Core Logic¡¯s service oriented mindset and commitment for state-of-the-art technology,¡± added the CEO.
